Wednesday it rained and rained… and rained. The monsoon that visited our little garden may have set the corn and tomato plants a little crooked, but mixed with all the sunshine we got afterward, it’s done wonders for growth.
We’ve picked lettuce and spinach already, and last night some hot and sweet peppers and our first bell pepper, which we put on our homemade pizza.
A little setback, though — we have had a little unwelcome visitor that we can’t seem to get rid of. A “wascally wabbit” who’s been eating up all of our pea plants! We’re either going to replant again or we just won’t have any peas this year. But we will have a fat little bunny! My husband bought a plastic owl and set it up near the garden in hopes that will keep any hungry thieves away. And also our broccoli hasn’t produced anything yet, so I don’t know what the deal is with that. Maybe we planted too late.
But the good news — the squash, watermelon, and pumpkins have sprouted, the beans are getting taller, my fennel is shooting up, and we’ll be having those BLTs pretty soon! The cabbages have formed tiny heads and the corn is looking good too.
Residents of our garden include:
- Fennel and sweet fennel
- Peas (or half-eaten pea plants)
- Hot, sweet, and bell peppers
Here are some pictures I took yesterday afternoon to see the progress that’s been made:
Have a great day!
