Tasty Tuesday: Cornbread


Have this with beans, soup, or turnip greens, and your meal is complete! Here’s how to make yummy Southern cornbread:

1 cup self-rising flour
1 cup cornmeal
1 1/4 cup milk or buttermilk (I use 1 part sour cream to 1 part water if I don’t have buttermilk)
1 egg
1/4 cup oil or butter

Preheat oven to 425°. Grease an 8- or 10-inch cast iron skillet or an 8x8x2-inch baking pan. Place cast iron skillet in oven to preheat.

Combine ingredients and pour batter into prepared pan. Bake for about 25 minutes or until golden brown.
